Track Day

A "track day" is where you go drive your car around a race track with a bunch of other people. It's not a race - there are strict rules about overtaking etc, and safety is a top priority - however, in general of course people go on these things so that they can drive fast around a race track without having to worry about other people travelling on the same road in the opposite direction.

My friend Chris (who I used to work with at UBS), generously let us drive his Subaru around the track.

It doesn't look like much (in fact, it's a very ugly car in most people's opinion, even without it being toothpaste-green) - but let me tell you, it's a fast car. Especially when Chris was driving it. For the most part I just tried to drive it fast but in control - I didn't want to be paying for anything if it crashed. Here's a shot of someone driving - probably Chris:

The fastest and most fun car to drive are the special purpose "track-only" Westfield cars. I took a ride in one of those... after the driver got my solemn assurance that I would not sue him if we both died in it. Now those cars are faaast. You are also really low to the ground - so you have things rushing past you at 140mph at a distance of 2 feet. I don't have any pictures - but this car is not unlike the one I rode in:

Now, though, I have to go and buy a decent car. My Nissan Micra 1.0 LX is just not going to cut it if I want to drive my own car on a track day.
